Dream Yacht Charter is proud to partner with Anna Mourou, founder of Sweden’s She Captain sailing network organization, for her three-year circumnavigation. The partnership has launched in Sweden at the Stockholm Boat Show on International Women’s Day.
Anna grew up sailing in Sweden every summer and is passionate about encouraging more of the world’s women to get out on the water and be confident sailors. She founded the She Captain network to provide a means for women to help each other and share knowledge and skills. There are now more than 3,000 members and regular flotillas with up to 60 women on 12 boats, as well as plans to expand worldwide.
Anna bought her Fountaine Pajot Lipari 41 from Dream Yacht Charter and plans to leave from Croatia in 2020. She will sail with her husband and two young children between returning in 2023. We’ll be sharing her stories and photos on our blog as she sails.
Loïc Bonnet, founder and CEO of Dream Yacht Charter said:
“We encourage initiatives such as She Captain and they are important in the world of sailing and create more opportunities for women. International Women’s Day is an opportunity to remember that sailing isn’t a pursuit reserved for men. Our partnership with Anna aims to follow her circumnavigation adventure and to encourage more women at sea. We look forward to Anna meeting our base teams and offering them the chance to get on board her yacht.”
Anna Mourou, founder of She Captain, said:
“We are living in such exciting times for this industry. The topic of how to get women more involved on boats has been a struggle for so many years. She Captain has proven that creating an opportunity for involvement and increasing braveness truly works. Now it’s clear the industry is ready and I’m so proud that She Captain has inspired Dream Yacht Charter, a major player in the industry, to take the lead. We are many women already out on the water, but still it’s far from the normal image you would see. It’s time for change so it’s more fun for everyone.”
